MRB was born Brandon Rowand Morta on March 26, 1997, in a beautiful city known for its natural setting; Cape Town, South Africa. He was raised in Silversands and later moved to Kuilsriver where he then grew up and lived out his teenage years. MRB began to DJ at the age of 12 in primary school, he then commercially started putting out mixtapes across social platforms to gain exposure, he also started DJing on radio shows presented by the likes of Carl Wastie, Mixi, Tyrone Paulson, and DJ Loyd. MRB’s aim at the time was to make use of the base he had which was high school, to build a support system.
In 2013 MRB began to practice the craft of music production as he was introduced to FL Studio by a school friend. Multiple music production tutorials later and tips from producers in and out of Cape Town. MRB dropped his first single titled “Adore Me” at age 18 with Singer/songwriter MicaylaJean, the year 2016, just after his final year of high school.
2016 was then the year that MRB decided to expand his knowledge and work towards his long term goals which were:
1 to do a music production course,
2 to obtain his qualifications within the Marketing field as he genuinely is a creative individual and this was a course of interest since high school.
MRB then obtained his Digital Music Production and Composition certification in 2016 and his Marketing Diploma in 2019, the same year he released his second single titled “Hands of Love” with Singer/Songwriter/Musician Jericho Hendricks.
Throughout 2019 MRB decided to expand his music knowledge by undergoing piano lessons as this was an instrument of interest to him for years.
2019 was definitely the year he made his experimenting and “thinking outside the box” public, as he made use of his research and knowledge that he obtained throughout his marketing course, MRB trialed and error-ed ways to go about creating content for his socials while he cooks up new music so that his supporters remain engaging with him, he then started creating video content where he hand-selects artists videos which they upload to social media and he then produces music around the video. Ever since this strategy became a success, with people reposting, liking, and commenting on their thoughts, MRB continues to use this strategy to entertain his supporters.
In 2020 MRB dropped a compilation of Remixes & Bootlegs titled ‘Notion of Sounds’ which has been performing beyond his expectations as he introduces a totally new sound through these remixes & bootlegs to his audience.
MRB believes that his type of sound is inspired by music that he grew up listening to such as jazz, old school, pop, disco, deep house, and electronic music. It is very important to MRB that the music he puts out makes musical sense despite not having the greatest amount of experience with music theory, he is confident in knowing that his strong points are producing by ear, by heart, and whatever feels right. He continues to build his brand by assisting and collaborating with artists who he can build with his expertise in the music industry and music production.
One of MRB’s favorite quotes:
“Imagine what a harmonious world it could be if every single person, both young and old shared a little of what he is good at doing” – Quincy Jones
